Mark Kan MD, a well-known Southern California fertility doctor, is the director of the Newport Fertility Center. Dr. Kan is a Board-Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Prior to becoming a Newport Beach fertility doctor, Dr. Kan completed his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago and graduated near the top of his class. He completed a 4-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. This program specialized in high-risk obstetrics, with one of the largest groups of Perinatology in the country. After residency, Dr. Kan was selected for fellowship at the the prestigious Cornell IVF program at Cornell University in New York. Dr. Kan completed a 3-year fellowship specializing in IVF and reproductive surgery.
At the Cornell program in New York, Dr. Kan worked with the pioneers in the field of IVF and ICSI, which would prepare him for his work as a Newport Beach IVF doctor. He performed extensive research in IVF, PGD, and sex selection techniques. He personally performed single gene PCR and fluorescent in-situ hybridiation (FISH), the two test used in PGD to make genetic diagnoses for the embryos.
Dr. Kan then served as the Director of IVF and Donor Egg at the University of Washington in Seattle prior to becoming a Southern California IVF doctor. As the ART Director of a large program of six physicians at the University of Washington, Dr. Kan was instrumental in changing protocols and achieving some of the highest pregnancy rates in the country. For Donor Egg in 2003, clinical pregnancy success per transfer was over 70% with an average of less than 2 embryos per transfer.
Dr. Kan relocated home to Southern California and established Newport Fertility Center, becoming a foremost Orange County fertility doctor. He also volunteers at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine to teach medical students and residents. He was recently awarded the Volunteer Clinical Teaching Faculty Award from the 2005 graduating class of physicians in OB/GYN. As an Orange County IVF doctor, Dr. Kan is Board Certified in both OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, representing the highest level of training and certification for a fertility specialist. Whether you are looking for an IVF specialist or a miscarriage doctor in Orange County, you can trust Dr. Kan's experience and expertise.
